Religious Communities
The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal
have recently opened a new Friary in Canning Town, East London. Inspired by the prolific spiritual writer, Fr Benedict Groeschel, they have grown rapidly as a powerhouse of prayer and apostolic action. They have been particularly high profile in the pro-life movement.
The Benedictine nuns of Holy Trinity Monastery, East Hendred
The newest community in the Roman Catholic diocese of Portsmouth, having been established by Bishop Crispian Hollis in 2004 as an autonomous monastery of diocesan right. The three founding members were previously nuns of Stanbrook Abbey, Worcester, and are therefore heirs to a long monastic tradition based on the Rule of Saint Benedict.
The Community of St John
aims to live the evangelical counsels rooted in the three covenants revealed in the Gospel of Saint John: the Covenant with Jesus in the Eucharist, the Covenant with Mary and the Covenant with Peter. The communities are small and have their own characteristics, either contemplative or apostolic.
Catholic Community
A new project offering Catholic news, links, chat, prayer rooms. Everything you've seen before – but this is a UK site! Southwark priest, Fr Peter Jenner has worked hard to put a most professional UK Catholic Web portal online backed by the formation of the Catholic Internet Trust. The news section is excellent with a focus on UK issues.
Regnum Christi Movement and Legionaries of Christ
Mexico. Fr Marcial Maciel founded both the Regnum Christi movement and the Legionaries of Christ whilst he was in his twenties. Regnum Christi is 'an association for the promotion of the Christian vocation' now present in over 30 countries. One of its particular apostolates is the support of family life. The Legionaries of Christ are famously attracting huge number of priestly vocations. They are boldly loyal to the Pope.

The Heralds of the Gospel
Brazil. Those who made it to the Faith Winter Session at Stonyhurst in 2003 may have met the impressive brothers Jose and Arthur, newly resident in Westminster diocese. The Heralds of the Gospel are now present in 47 countries. The movement was established with the status of a 'private association of pontifical right' on February 22 2001. Their three pillars are the Eucharist, the Pope and Mary (sounds familiar!) They have a particular charism for youth formation

A moving introduction on the Martyrs who were executed on the site.
Prinknash Abbey
offers plenty of useful information. Also selections of Gregorian Chant recorded from the monastery.
Community of Our Lady of Walsingham
Four young women founded this new contemplative community in Westminster diocese on 6th Jan 2004. Rooted in Carmelite tradition they are developing a 'vocational spirituality' to assist, through various apostolic activities, those who are searching for God. Their charism, as their name suggests, is deeply rooted in the distinctive focus of our national Marian shrine: "we recognise in the mystery of the Annunciation, the challenge to rekindle that joy which only comes from following the call of God." They are yet another sign that orthodox Catholicism breeds vocations.
Pluscarden Abbey
This is the only medieval monastery in Britain still inhabited by monks and being used for its original purpose. Set in the stunning scenery of North East Scotland and with its beautiful liturgy, Pluscarden has long been a factourite place of retreat for those involved in the Faiht Movement. It seems to have no shortage of vocations of its own.
Grassroots Renewal Project
A lay operated evangelical effort initiated and directed by the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. This work represents a sincere attempt to respond to Pope John Paul II's call for a "New Evangelization" while fostering renewal and reform in the Catholic Church according to the authentic spirit of the Second Vatican Council. The intention of the project is to "instruct, inspire, and motivate catholic laity to know and understand the truth, power and beauty of the Faith. At the same time, it desires to challenge them to accept their responsibility of sharing the saving work of Jesus Christ and His Church with others.
