Various Organisations
International Guides and Scouts
Recognised by the Holy Father as a private international association of the lay faithful, “You are a precious gift not only for the Church but also for the new Europe,” John Paul II said in a message sent to the European Scouts attending the international meeting in Zelasko, Poland, last month. The website has interesting information on Catholic Scouting in Europe and the way in which the organisation, founded in a non-Catholic environment in England, has flourished as a means of living the faith.
Vidimus Dominum
A very encouraging site which arose from the International Conference of Young Religious (Rome, September 29th - October 4th of 1997) whose slogan was
Vidimus Dominum (“We have seen the Lord”) The content, in English, French, Spanish and Italian, includes inspiring articles, news on the Religious Life, discussion forums, links to religious congregations. The online library is rich in resources and a good starting point to search for various patristic and other ecclesiastical texts.
CIVITAS
The Institute for the Study of Civil Society was launched early in 2000 as an independent registered charity. It is non party-political and financed by private donations. Its aim is to deepen public understanding of the framework behind a free and democratic society. In particular it seeks to clarify the distinct responsibilities of government and civic society; it is a call to reconsider the vital roles of Church, charitable organisation and family in public life whilst they are in danger of being totally overrun by the State.
