Vocations
Vocations
Catholic Pages is one of the best Catholic web portals. The section on Vocations is a good directory of links to sound articles and information about priestly vocations. Included with articles aimed at those thinking of a vocation, there is a link to Archbishop Eldon Curtiss’ seminal article on the “artificial and contrived” nature of the vocations crisis.
Vocations
The Legionaries of Christ have provided "Vocations.com", a well-presented site with introductory materials on vocation and the chance to ask advice from a priest. They also offer a service called "Shorelines" which provides meditation, news, teaching from the Holy Father weekly by email. The striking opening page has an animated banner which says "One life to live, one chance to live it", and the "Take the next step" page offers the simple practical advice to prepare, retreat, visit, inviting young men to prepare spiritually, go on a retreat and then visit a place of formation. The site is encouraging throughout and its practical spirituality would be of help to any young man discerning a vocation to the priesthood.
Pilgrim Path
The primatial see of Ireland has a site called "
Pilgrim Path" aimed at young men thinking of the priesthood. It has articles to read and some answers to frequently asked questions about priestly life and vocation.
Getting Married
Thos whose vocation is to marriage might find some of the "Getting Married" site helpful. The site concentrates on the immediate preparation for marriage which is reasonable enough but there seems to be a great emphasis on the ceremony itself. The page for the Readings is very helpful as is the commentary on the rite. However, with all the information about decorating the Church and
producing a booklet and the practical information about the documentation needed in the pre-nuptial enquiry, it would be good to see some basic information on the nature of the sacrament, the purposes and properties of the marriage covenant, even something about the family and the Church's teaching on ‘fumble’ (the American neologism for ‘petting’) and love.
Seminaries
British Catholics have ten seminaries for the training of secular clergy. Insofar as th4se are tied up with the Catholic history of our lands, they should be of interest to us all. The English College, Rome boasts a particularly well-produced and interesting history section. So much rests on them not all becoming history themselves. (Scotus College does not seem to be on-line as yet.)
